Manchester United are frontrunners to sign Erling Haaland despite the Red Bull Salzburg striker visiting German clubs this week.

The 19-year-old, who has scored eight goals in the Champions League this season, is believed to be favouring Old Trafford as his next destination over a move to the Bundesliga.

He has visited the training grounds of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund and has not made his final decision known. But United are prominent in his thoughts, according to sources in Austria.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with the striker at Molde, when Haaland broke into the first team of the Norwegian side before securing a move to Austria last season.

And Solskjaer is still in pole position to work with the teenager again despite interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Dortmund are looking for a No9 and would offer regular football to Haaland, while Leipzig and Salzburg are both owned by Red Bull which would make a deal easier.

Juventus are also looking at the Norway international and the youngster will talk to all interested parties to decide where will be best for his development after making an impact in the Champions League.

Clubs are aware Haaland has a release clause that could see him move for around £20million this January, making available well below his market value after a free-scoring year in Austria.

And he would be a perfect fit to bolster Solskjaer’s attack for the second half of the campaign at United.

Solskjaer has asked Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to lead his attack this season, with Mason Greenwood also getting one Premier League start up front in the win over Tottenham

But his two main forwards are also comfortable playing behind a No9 in the mould of Haaland, who would add competition as United try to fight their way back into top-four contention.

Haaland has ambitions of playing in the Premier League like his father Alf-Inge. He also once said he wanted to win the title at his Dad’s old team Leeds.

One of his advisors is Mino Raiola, who brokered United’s record transfer when Paul Pogba returned from Juventus for £89million.

Raiola has been outspoken over Pogba wanting to leave United but they remain firmly in the chase for Haaland.
