Bollywood has come a long way. In the last 5 years, the industry has gradually gone through a revamp of actors, scripts, directors and cinema. The stardom that Khans used to carry no longer have that magnifying glory to themselves. Whether it was a Zero, Thugs Of Hindostan or Bharat, there was a dearth of audience demanding just out and out acting with no tight writing.
2019 was all about content is king. From a Manikarnika, Article 15 to Kesari, small budget films took to the fore front and led the box office. New actors like Priyanshu Painyuli, who was recently seen in Netflix’s Upstarts, admitted this was the best time to try hands in acting. He feels industry is on an exploration spree and evolving for good.
In the midst of such great cinema, we witnessed the trailer of Pati Patni Aur Woh that dropped yesterday. Remaking a Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Ranjeeta Kaur is nothing less than a disappointment, atleast as far as the trailer is concerned. And I have my reasons. Take a look.
1. Marital rape jokes are NOT okay
“Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari
Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari
Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai”
I don’t expect anything from a Kartik Aaryan movie but this is dismal https://t.co/q61BFOmD38

As soon as the trailer released, we noticed a dialogue that did not go down well with us or the internet. There is a particular sequence where Kartik Aaryan is speaking to his friend saying, “Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari, Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari, Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai.” Ever since this dialogue, there has been an explosion of criticism on how casually this dialogue has been written and used. Kartik Aaryan, it is not okay to make marital sex jokes to evoke laughter. In a country, where people are trying to criminalise this offense, making fun of this SUCKS AND HAS NO JUSTIFICATION.
2. The movie continues the long tradition of Kartik Aaryan’s tryst with sexism
It’s high time Kartik Aaryan comes out of his shell and evolves as an artist. Constantly doing movies like Pyaar Ka Punchanama, Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety, Pati Patni Aur Woh might get a few giggles in the theatre but take away his credibility of a ‘responsible actor.’ The new trailer of Pati Patni Aur Woh endorses misogyny proudly. Despite Bhumi Pednekar claiming, they kept in mind that this is not a sexist film, we are sorry to report that the script not only breeds baseless scenes but even sexist and uncalled monologues, by Kartik Aaryan. Glorifying cheating and I’m sick of this marriage coupled with lame whatsapp jokes is so Great Grand Masti days we have been trying to get away from.
3. Ananya Panday is uncomfortable and underage for this role
We’re yet to understand how this 20-year-old child-like face is getting roles where she is playing the “other woman”. Making a debut with Student Of The Year, Ananya had a similar role and now with Pati Patni Aur Woh, she has been typecast in a two heroine-1 hero set up. She looks uncomfortably young and a complete misfit in her role. She is underage and no amount of make up or glamourous clothes has changed that about her, when you see the trailer.
4. Wives in sarees and third woman in a dress is just stereotypical
Haven’t we been fighting about the whole ‘let’s not keep Karvachauth’, ‘women can compete in anything’ or ‘we’re equal and stronger’. then why does it happen that a wife has to be portrayed as someone who is seen wearing sarees and suits and the minute Kartik Aaryan’s alleged girlfriend Tapasya aka Ananya arrives, she appears in the tiniest of clothes. Are you trying to tell that this is the only way to distract a married man? CLOTHES because in another scene when Ananya is wearing ethnic, he is again shocked.
5. The casting is questionable – Admit it
As we already discussed, we are unable to come to terms with Ananya Panday as someone who will be associated with a married man in ways shown in the trailer. As far as Bhumi is concerned, she has done way too many roles featuring as the wife. Whether it was Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Shubh Mangal Savdhaan or now this, Bhumi definitely needs to put her glamourous foot forward, the way she does during promotions. And coming to the lead, Kartik – firstly, your hair has a life of their own, which needs to be fixed asap. And apart from that, the actor needs to get out of the rut and take braver decisions. Take a cue from Ayushmann Khuranna and Rajkummar Rao please.
6. We do not want one more Bollywood remix or another bad remake
This movie is definitely a mockery of the original film we are not looking forward to. In the trailer, you would have noticed 2 songs that lack complete originality just like the script. From using Dheeme Dheeme, which was a music video to remixing Ankhiyo Se Goli Maare ( cringe-worthy), we’re yet to see innovation as far as rom-coms or sex comedies are concerned.
Bollywood, please take us by good surprise because we’re really done with shoddy films.
